About the Tabwise research scanner

If you've seen TabwiseResearch in your website logs, it was our scanner. We use it to measure how accessible business websites are, and publish the overall results as research, such as the share of sites in a sector with low colour contrast.

What it does

  • Loads your homepage once, like a visitor's browser would.
  • Runs automated accessibility checks (WCAG 2.1 AA) on that page.
  • Doesn't fill in forms, log in, add anything to a basket, or get around security checks. If your site shows a bot check, we record it as blocked and move on.
  • Blocks analytics and advertising scripts, so our visit doesn't show up in your analytics.

What we publish

Only totals for groups of sites, such as a sector, a region or a website platform. We never publish results for a named business, and the list of sites we scanned stays private.

How to opt out

Add this to your site's robots.txt and we won't scan it:

User-agent: TabwiseResearch
Disallow: /

Or email hello@tabwise.co.uk with your web address and we'll remove it from future studies.

Want your own results?

You can run the same checks on your site, free: scan your website.
